This lamp is almost exactly the same as one that I turned while in 7th grade woodshop class (Westboro Mass) that launched my interest in woodworking. I also used 5 glued laminations of maple and cheery. Believe it was either 1969 or 1970 back when schools taught these kinds of things.
I would race to shop after school ended to work at the lathe. Recall another kid running to the shop and always threatening to get on lathe before me – thinking he was just messing with me. Can’t recall his name.
Mine was destroyed in a fire in 1977 at my brothers apartment while I was in Germany.
Funny thing is, as much as I enjoyed turning wood on a lathe, this was my first and last thing I made with this technique. I do recall instructor giving me a “B” grade because it didn’t look exactly like my sketch. Mine had more of a 3 bodied Aunt Jamama Syrup bottle look, Think plan said 2 segments but I made 3 because they looked better.
