I decided to modify Hylans plans just a little. He uses 7/8″ wide spacers with a 6″ gap for his open gunwale options. I didn’t really like the look and went with a 2″ wide spacer block and used “Golden Ratio” method to size gaps (1.6218 x spacer width). Took a bit of time and calculations to get everything exactly how I wanted (spacer centered on hull length, reinforcing block for rowing pads sized and positioned properly and fitting locations for laminated seat to gunwale connection. Probably 2 days work just to get how I wanted. But, now everything ready to glue up and really looking like a boat.  PS- picked up paint from George Kirby at Mystic Wooden Boat show yesterday – decided to go with white hull and red trim – very traditional for this kind of boat.
