Going to teach myself a bit more about boat design over the winter. Tired of tying flies and need something different to keep busy. I actually started a Naval Architecture program while at Boeing many years ago but Boeing refused to pay as not directly related to my work etc…

Found this old-school planimeter (eBay) for many basic calculations – pretty cool how they work. I had one maybe 20 years ago but it got lost during move back to NH. Teale’s book is considered an excellent primer for designing, mostly focused on sailboats, but good info about hard chine versions also. Maybe come up with my own design to build next summer. Still trying to figure out what I really want. Beach Pea is nice, but rowing kind of sucks and impossible to sneak up on fish in a lapstrake wooden boat!

UPDATE

Got plans completed for 16-ft Amesbury GLS (glued lap-strake). Will be starting as soon as weather breaks.
