These are my favorite books on fly tying. Both published in 2003 which is when I bought Art Scheck’s “Tying Better Flies”, followed by John Likakis’s “Bass Bug Basics” a few years llater for warm water fishing.
Scheck’s book is great introduction to materials, tools and durable techniques. His method for tying Clousers is excellent and has yielded both Salmon and Cutt’s in Puget Sound. His examples are predominately trout flies, but techniques easily transportable to any fly. Not much on deer hair techniques but just about everything else covered.
Likakis’s Bass Bug Basics focus is spinning bass bugs, tails and a little bit on stacking. His basic spinning method is sound and with a little practice yields consistent and well tied bugs. This is probably the best book out there for learning about spinning/stacking hair for bugs.
I have many fly tying books and these are two great ones to get.
