Now that shop is almost done (still waiting on lighting to arrive) decided to start working my Penobscot 14 build. Still going to WBS to build a Penobscot 13 with designer end of month and should have a question or 2 for him. Reviewed manuals and drawings, Arch does a great job documenting and his construction drawing are superb.
The stem pattern was made first – needed to maintain better than 1/32″ tolerance on these parts as they for the basis for everything. Lots of chisel work, sanding and filing. I broke my 1st batten on this so just used an old drafting spline that I had to get curves right.
Transom was next and was a bit easier. Only challenging part was the small tabs where the planing sits. This is how far I got on day 1.
Sunday was only a 1/2 day work – just needed to get patterns for both bulkheads. Since I have a very nice bandsaw, none of this was overly difficult, just took lots of time doing layout and final tweaking to get fits perfect.
UPDATE – OCTOBER 6, 2023
PROJECT TERMINATED – GOING TO BUILD A 15FT BEACH PEA. STAY TUNED.
