Managed to get the bottom boards scarfed together but also broke the battens I was planning to use. Temps dropped last few days so just waiting for epoxy to fully cure on new 20ft long battens. These are used to fair hull lines etc… Can’t make a nice boat without them but they are delicate and easy to break if mishandled. Made 2 from nice piece of fir. Tomorrow should be an interesting day…

16″ wide bottom boards ready to scarf

I forgot to take picture of scarfs, had a guy from Eastman Boat Builders over and didn’t think to do so. Those are the original battens I was hoping to use – just made from leftover trim. They broke at the finger joints, not the scarfs.

Bottom Board Scarfed and Glued Up

Starting Stem – most work done with draw knife

Inner stem is just roughed out, will do final plane work as I fit on each plank row/course. I used to cut a saw reference line (Gardner method) but found using a draw knife worked better.

Inner Stem Beveled

Lots of clamps used for this scarf

Those are some long battens – hopefully they won’t break in use. However; I did make two, just in case.
